Since the end of 2018, Saipol has been marketing Oleo100, the first B100 energy made entirely from rapeseed, produced and processed in France, for use in heavy goods vehicles. By offering a free connected tank to its customers (road hauliers, local authorities, coach operators, waste collectors, etc.), Oleo100 was able to equip each of them with a connected gauge.
For this purpose, the subsidiary of the Avril group relied on the technology of the young company Fuel it. In 2016, the start-up designed a complete IoT (Internet of Things) solution based on a gauge connected via the new networks dedicated to Sigfox & Lora connected devices. This patented gauge, made in France, makes it possible to determine the level of liquid in a tank remotely, without having to travel, and thus optimise deliveries and study each customer’s consumption precisely.
The data imported directly into a dedicated Oleo100 web interface allows the energy team to quickly see the entire tank farm under management.
Oleo100’s consumer customers can delegate the management of their energy needs or make their request directly via the customer interface designed for them. Mr Blin, Process & Energy Engineer for Oleo100 confirms that “Fuel it has been able to provide simple and adapted tools for us and for our customers. Customers have a dedicated interface where they have access to their tank farm and can monitor their consumption. Because it provides a concrete solution, improving our service to customers, this solution provides real added value. ”
Produced entirely from local and traced biomass, Oleo100 energy plays an active role in preserving the environment. Using a calculation method certified by Bureau Veritas, the energy reports a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions and up to 80% reduction in particulate emissions for heavy goods vehicles, and enables a commitment to the local economy thanks to French rapeseed. The connected gauge solution is also part of this approach to reducing harmful emissions. By managing to avoid emergency deliveries and by making the routes more fluid, fewer trucks are sent in traffic.
Origins of the project
The design of this adapted solution was done upstream, hand in hand with Saipol which produces Oleo100 and Fuel it. After successful testing in 2018, the SaaS software offered by Fuel it was easily adapted to Oleo100’s needs and customised to its colours. The software continues to adapt thanks to a system of modules that are grafted onto the data feedback interface. Yann de la Roche Saint André, Director of Operations of Fuel it, who has been monitoring this partnership, emphasises the key points of the project: “The success of this partnership was based primarily on our ability to adapt to the specific needs of the client. We were able to show them that our interface is adaptable and that we have the capacity to support them over the long term on larger volumes while remaining flexible to their needs. ”
A link with Saipol’s ERP system has also been set up to communicate the fuel prices directly to the customer interface in the coming months, so that the customer can order the required volumes of Oleo100 directly. Tools to help manage routes are also planned for future developments. Geoffroy Pertuisot, Head of Digital Innovation in the Avril Group IT Department, concludes: “Oleo100 and more generally the Avril Group is keen to move forward with the deployment of IoT solutions that have a real purpose of improving customer service. The Fuel it solution was attractive because it was complete from start to finish and scalable according to the group’s needs. We are also thinking about other use cases in the group, connected sensors and IoT in general are a great source of opportunities. ”
